KAYAKING ON CUMBRIA’S NORTHERNMOST LAKE

Explore the one of Cumbria's most picturesque kettle hole lakes on our sit on top kayaks. You'll be far from the clamour of the crowded lakes in the Lake District National Park. Arrange an instructor led, small group taster or skills session. Our private family/group sessions and courses are available to book online or contact us to arrange a more suitable time, or for a larger group.

Why not liven up your time with kayak hire from Talkin Adventures? (available during normal boat hire opening times). Anyone over 14 is welcome to hire a kayak with no need to pre-book. We even have some tandem kayaks for under 14s to enjoy with an adult.

You will find our stable, quick and manoeuvrable boats provide the perfect introduction to kayaking in Cumbria. They are designed for ease of access and have comfortable seating. There's none of the hassle of needing a spray skirt! Just put on your life jacket or buoyancy aid, grab hold of your paddle and away you go!

KAYAKS FOR BEGINNERS NEAR CARLISLE

Our sit-on-top kayaks provide a superb introduction to kayaking for beginners. They are also a good choice of recreational kayak on Talkin's usually calm water. You will soon be able to go kayaking on Talkin Tarn with our British Canoeing qualified instructors.

These experienced paddlers will provide various BC courses in canoeing and kayaking. Family and private sessions are provided as we are able to comply with the ever-changing Covid secure guidelines for water sports. Book your private group taster session online or contact us to arrange a progressive British Canoeing Discover Award or further training.

We use modern Wave Sport Scooter kayaks. These are the ideal type of kayak for our flat-water venue. will allow you to master control of your kayak in a safe environment. Your kayak session in Cumbria with Talkin Adventures will begin with a quick safety briefing and overview of basic kayak paddle technique.

With our very stable sit-on-top kayaks it is very easy to stay upright. Backrests are fitted for additional support and these boats are suitable for people of varying abilities to enjoy.

LEARN HOW TO KAYAK

Your bespoke session may include challenges to help improve your technique and confidence, depending on your desired outcomes. This is usually achieved through fun games and challenges.

We regularly provide British Canoeing Paddlesport Start and Discover Awards. These are easily booked online here. We are also pleased to offer British Canoeing's new "Paddle Safer" course.

More progressive coaching through British Canoeing courses can be arranged through our partners. They can help you improve at various venues throughout the Lake District, Pennines and Borders. The more adventurous amongst you can be introduced to white water, if that’s what you’re looking for.

LOOKING FOR KAYAK HIRE NEAR BRAMPTON & CARLISLE?

We offer more than instructor led kayak taster sessions. Our tandem sit-on-top kayaks are available to hire on weekends and school holidays from Easter to October. Hire of one of our sit on tops will soon be available for your own little kayaking trip on the tarn.

This offers a relaxing opportunity to enjoy the peace and quiet of the water just outside Brampton. The views of the northernmost Pennines are outstanding! We are easily reached in just 20 minutes from Carlisle, half an hour from Penrith or 40 minutes from Hexham.

Bring the family to hire a boat during the weekend and school holidays. Boat hire at Talkin Tarn should be open from 11-4pm. (Easter to October)

We have a range of boats available including rowing boats, canoes and sit on top kayaks. Each boat costs £12 per half hour.

Children are welcome to row or paddle our boats, under adult supervision. We insist that under 14s are accompanied during boat hire by an adult whilst on the water. All participants will wear a buoyancy aid.

There’s no need to book for boat hire, just turn up. Sometimes the wind is too high for us to safely operate boat hire. If that occurs, we’ll pop a note on our Facebook page. It's a good idea to check there first.
