Adventure Learning for Schools

The importance of Outdoor Learning and Adventure Courses is already well documented with far reaching benefits. A new way of working with heavy restrictions has limited the opportunities for outdoor and experiential learning, even though the outdoors is considered one of the safest places to be.

During 2020 we have been working hard to adapt and deliver COVID secure Adventure Courses for Schools.

Being focused on the learning outcomes associated with outdoor experiences for children and young people has enabled us to adapt our adventure courses and retain the benefits.

  • Shared experiences help to consolidate interpersonal relationships, which may present a challenge in a classroom environment.
  • The opportunity and freedom to explore within designated boundaries allows free thinking and the building of trust. Hidden personalities often flourish in a new environment.
  • Trying new adventure activities and challenges is an opportunity to build confidence, which is often transferred to the classroom and wider world.
  • A short Adventure Trip may ignite a passion for the outdoors, a positive interest in the world or even a desire to start a new hobby.

Structured around popular activities such as Archery, Canoeing, Woodland Skills and Orienteering, the benefits of your Adventure Learning Course will be observed throughout the day and can be used as a base for future teaching in the classroom. Whilst the structure of a day is often centred around the specific activities and timetable, your day will be built around your desired learning outcomes. The memories that teachers and children take away are of the feelings of success, shared experiences and new bonds.

We'd love to help you gain some of these benefits for your class. Please get in touch to have a chat about your goals, and we would love to arrange an activity day at Talkin Tarn for your school.
